County Supervisors June 7, 2016 Also given to City Council on July 5,2016

Elgin Public Library has 245 patrons (families). We have had 21 new patrons over the last year.

Town patrons 175 Rural patrons 83

Circulation for this year was 4, 281 items.  We had 3, 109 patron visits.

We now have 8,721 items in our collection. We have added 358 items valued over $800. (This does not mean we paid that much for our books.  some were from a children’s grant, and we are very frugal shoppers when buying books.) The additions include 107 children’s books, 166 adult books (fiction and non fiction), audio books, DVDs, and 63 large print books.

We belong to Nebraska Overdrive.  The cost is $500 a year but it gives our patrons triple the amount of books to choose from.

We added two more years to our local newspaper digitization.  We now have The Elgin Review from 1897-2014.

The Way Out West 4-H Club helped with our summer reading last year and will also this summer. This summer we will also use programs from the County Extension office. Also we have an intern who is helping with summer readig whle learning about other aspects of our library.

We have a book club that meets once a month during the school lyear with an average of 10-12 people attending.  We borrow book kits from the Nebraska Library Commission or from individual libraries for book club.  We have 4 Kindles that we use for book club if we cannot find books in large print.  Three of the Kindles were donated and one was purchased with library funds.  We also loan them out to trustworthy people.

In the last year we have replaced one computer, one monitor, and purchased a new printer/fa/copier. Funds for the printer/fax/copier came from a grant from the former Northeast Nebraska Library System.

Thank you for your continued support of our county libraries.

Report to City Council- July, 2013

Total # of materials 8,530

In last year we circulated 4,976 items

Our highest circulation was in June when we had story hour. 684 items were checked out.

25-35 children attended each story time- there were 8 -Way Out West 4-H Club read

4 activity times were held for school age children in the afternoons 6-12 attended

Our lowest circulation was in December -332 items checked out

We have added 368 new books and audio books in the last year and withdrew 131 items.

If patrons had to purchase all the items they checked out in the past year, it would cost $225,000.

183 items are currently checked out.

Accreditation process now in progress.

I am writing a Kreutz-Bennett grant to join the Nebraska OverDrive group and to purchase microfilm for the last ten years.  The grant is for $2,500 and must be matched.  The library foundation will match, but one part of the grant states

Community leadership must be exhibited in the grant application indicating the likely sustainability of improvements attained.

OverDrive will cost $500 each year.  This will be added to the library’s budget.  This will give us access to almost 500 more books and 3,900 audiobooks. Can I say you will support this program?

Please come and visit the library!
