Friday the 13th Movie Night

BEWARE! Are you superstitious? The Elgin Public Library will be having a Friday the 13th Movie Night for grades 4th through 7th. Come if you dare!

Movie NIght at the library will take place on Friday, July 13 from 8 to 10 pm. Anyone in grades 4 to 7 are invited to attend. We will be having snacks and watching the movie ParaNorman.

Rock On!!

During activity time on Thursday, June 28 the kids took a different approach to the theme “Libraries Rock”. The children attending used their creativity by painting rocks that will display messages that promote Elgin Public Library. They then listened to the story “Stone Soup”.

Cause I’m a cowgirl, Yippee-ky-yo!

On a rainy June 25, twelve children attended story time. Sing Sophie was read to the children. In the story, Sophie loves to sing, but no one but the crickets wanted to hear her song, that is until she was needed for a special situation that called for her talents and where her cowgirl songs not only came in handy but saved the day as well. After the story, they made banjos and snacks were furnished by Brecken and Owen Childers.

Summer Reading Activities

Storytime was rockin’ this week. We were fortunate to have Mrs. Rachel Becker read Music Class Today by David Weinstone. Along with the story the children played instruments, danced and waved scarves to music, marched around the library and sang songs accompanied by Mrs. Becker on her guitar. A big thank you to Mrs. Becker for the very musical story time.

On Thursday, June 14th Travis Rudloff, an intern from the Nebraska Extension office read The Magic School Bus In the Haunted Museum by Linda Beech to the children attending the activity time. Following the story they spent time experimenting with sound using jars and water. Travis will be helping out with activity time during the remainder of our summer reading program.

Summer Reading Rocks!

Elgin Public Library rocks and so does our Summer Reading Program. Story time began on Monday, June 4. It is held every Monday and Wednesday. We have had about 22 children attend each story time. Check out our website to see all of our story time activities. We held our first activity time on Thursday, June 7. Since our theme is Libraries Rock, the kids made a “Rock” band as part of their activity. They are on display in the library. Come on in and take a look.
New children’s books are Pete the Cat and the Cool Cat Boogie by James Dean, The Nuts Sing and Dance in Your Polka-Dot Pants by Eric Litwin, and Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo by John Lithgow. A new book in the juvenile section is Jada Jones Rock Star by Kelly Starling Lyons.
