RSVP Needed!

On July 27, the Elgin Public Library will be having our Summer Reading party. Anyone who participated in the Bingo Summer Reading activity, Story time, or Activity time are invited to attend this party. It will be held at the library at 5:00. Come for a good time of games and food. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP by July 24, 2017. This is important so we can make sure we have enough food for everyone.

Robots!

On July 13, the library had their last activity time for the summer. Krystal Carr read the story, The Fix-It Man to 10 children. After the story they had the opportunity to see what it was like to be an engineer. Using legos and a computer, they worked together to accomplish a goal of making a robot and getting it to move. Thank you Krystal for the fun activities this summer.

Clowning Around!

On July 10, Janie Score entertained the children with the book, Sweet Dreams, Clown-Around! The story is about the Clown-Around family and their busy and exciting day. The children then dressed up like clowns with a collar they colored, a hat, and finally a big red nose. While dressed up like clowns they played some games and also were treated with some clown toys that Janie Score’s children used to play with.

How Big Is Your Brain?

The “brain” was the topic for activity time on July 6, 2017. Krystal Carr from the Antelope County Extension Office presented the activity to 11 children. After reading the book entitled Ideas All Around Krystal quizzed the kids on the brain. They discussed things such as the size of the brain, the left and right sides of the brain and their functions. They also talked about concussions. The kids were then given “a brain” and various materials to design and build something to protect it.

Pete the Cat and the Magic Sunglasses

Can wearing sunglasses make your day better? To help answer that question Jeanine Jochum and Tenley Schindler read Pete the Cat and the Magic Sunglasses. In this book, Pete the Cat wakes up feeling grumpy—nothing seems to be going his way. But with the help of some magic sunglasses, Pete learns that a good mood has been inside him all along. The kids learned that you can take your positive outlook and transform a grumpy day into an awesome day just like Pete. The children also had fun frosting, decorating and eating graham crackers and coloring pictures of Pete the Cat. Each child was given a pair of sunglasses to help them remember to have a great day!

The Fix-It Man

Lauren Seier and Buddy were once again a big hit at story time. She read The Fix-It Man to 19 children. The book introduced them to Joshua James, the fix-it man. If he can’t fix it, no one can! This playful read-aloud story was sure to inspire Elgin’s young inventors. The children then used their creativity to invent and build with Legos.
