Library Closed Monday

The library will be closed today, Monday, December 30 due to the weather. We will plan to be open tomorrow during our regular hours from 1:00 to 5:00. We will also be showing a kids movie from 2:00 to 4:00. If your kids are getting restless we would love to have them join us. Happy New Year!

Christmas Festivities at the Library

Elgin Public Library got into the spirit of the season by inviting Santa Claus to come and read stories to the children. Twenty-three eager children enjoyed listening to stories and visiting with Santa.

The festivities continued with Junior High and High School students building and decorating Gingerbread houses. They had lots of fun designing, and eating (their decorations) while building their houses.

    Christmas Story Time

To celebrate the Christmas season we visited the first grade at Elgin Public and St. Boniface to read Jingle Bells by Iza Trapani. The book takes us on a Christmas sleigh ride around the world to discover traditions from Mexico, Sweden, the Philippines, Poland, Italy, Kenya, and the United States. To celebrate a tradition from Mexico, the children made poinsettias.

    Story Time with Santa

    Boys and Girls,
We just received word that Santa will be dropping in at Elgin Public Library on Sunday, December 15, at 2:00. He wants to read a story to the children of Elgin. So you are all invited to come to the library on Sunday and listen to Santa read a Christmas story. We will also have juice and cookies. Hope you can come. We are excited to have Santa at the library.

    Multi-Cooker Class

We had a great crowd for our Healthy Food Fast using your multi-cooker on December 4. . The class was taught by Extension Educators Brittany Spieker and Kayla Hinrichs. They gave us lots of great information and good food.
Thank you to all who joined us!

    The Moose is Back!

The moose is back from the North Pole to spend the holiday season with Elgin Public Library. He will once again be moving around the library doing all sorts of nutty things. The moose wants you to stop by the library and see if you can find him. The result will be a treat from the special mailbox.

    Decorate a Gingerbread House

The Elgin Public Library will be hosting a “Decorate a Gingerbread House” activity for students in grades 7th – 12th on December 15 from 3:00 to 5:00. Pre-registration is required so we have enough supplies. You can register by calling the library at 843-2460 or stopping by the library by Thursday, December 12. We will have Christmas music and treats.
