Plant Science Students Volunteer Services

Three Plant Science students along with their instructor Mrs. Julia Schwartz spent their class period helping out at the Elgin Public Library.  Nikki Payne, Callie Krebs and Marie Meis trimmed rose bushes as well as planted vegetables.  Thank you – Your help was very much appreciated!

Library Raffle

Want to show off your American spirit?  The Elgin Public Library is raffling off a patriotic wreath (pictured below) to raise money for our summer reading program.  The raffle will continue until June 12 when we will draw the lucky winner.  Tickets are on sale at the library.  The cost for the raffle ticket is $1 for one ticket or 6 tickets for $5. What a better way to celebrate and decorate for holidays such as Flag Day, 4th of July or Veterans Day. You will also be helping the summer reading program and the kids of Elgin.

Norfolk Daily News Summer Reading Contest

Be part of the New Summer Reading Contest for children ages 5 to 12, sponsored by the Daily News and Elgin Public Library.

Each week in June, pick up a different contest card at the library and fill it out by finding six different things in a copy of the Daily News.  (For younger children, it’s OK for parents to help.)  Return the completed card to the library. Pick up and fill out all four cards and automatically have a chance at winning the contest’s Grand Prize!

Free copies of the Daily News are available at the library each week of the contest.

Summer Reading Program

School will soon be out, and it will be time for the Elgin Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.

The theme this year is “Build a Better World!”  Students of all ages are invited to read! We will keep track of the books they read this summer and have a program or two along the way! Last year we had some great prizes for those who read and will try to find some good prizes again this year. You do not need to sign up ahead of time. This year we are doing Summer Reading Bingo.  Just come to the library when school is out and get your Bingo card.

STORY TIME

Young children from the ages of three to six are invited to story time on Monday and Wednesday mornings beginning June 5 and lasting until July 12. Story time will be from 10:00-10:45. If you have young visitors in your home they are welcome to come too!

ACTIVITY TIME

Children in grades 1-5 are invited to come on Thursday afternoons at 1:00 for activities which may include plays, games, art projects, etc.  Activity time will last about 1 hour and will start on Thursday, June 8 and end on July 13.
